The Introvert’s Survival Guide to Advertising and marketing

Copyright 2006 Sandra K. Martini

Have you ever walked to a networking event full of visitors and wished you could be in other places?

Traditional “business building rules” tell us that we need to multilevel. Attending a charity lunch where you give a 2-minute game on your business, community lunch where you eat rubber rooster and another cocktail time where you feel like you’re for a speed date going by business owner to business owner having barely enough time to remember all their names, much less make a good impression.

It doesn’t ought to be that way!

Years ago, while severely involved in “Corporate America” (I still shudder when telling that phrase), I needed the Myers-Briggs Type Pointer – a personality evaluation. My fears were verified: I am an introvert (actually, an “ISTJ” for those of you acquainted with the Myers-Briggs). High level overview introverts are people who refresh their energy from within whilst extroverts get energy through people and other external resources. I am one of those people who pulls energy and ideas through solitude and reaching inside my own psyche.

Depending on the scenario, everyone is both an introvert and an extrovert. Place me in a room which includes of my friends and I undertake the persona of a stand-up comedian. Put me within a large conference room wherever I know nobody and feel not presenting and I end up being the silent wallflower.

Given the option, I prefer to be with a few pals rather than at a large celebration where I know no one. Whilst I’ve been told I am an excellent public speaker (birth through fire in the corporate globe does wonders), it takes lots of energy for me to get “in the zone” and I have discovered to do this by being well-prepared within the topic and discussing points I’m passionate about.

The following advertising techniques are some that I used successfully and are designed to work with the introverted among us.

one Participate in online forums as well as discussion groups.

It’s simple to be authentic and faithful to yourself while marketing your company by participating on on the internet forums such as Yahoo Organizations. You can spend as much or as little period getting to know the other small business owners, digital assistants, etc . as you wish. There is absolutely no face to face, “will they such as me? ”, “will these people trust me? ” type of sensation. You can take your time in addressing those issues that interest a person, rather than feel “on the actual spot” like you may at the average networking event.

We belong to several such organizations and have met many fantastic people this way and have discovered much from different company owners. It’s a great way to pick the actual brains of people in the exact same situation as yourself.

second . Write articles.

Take advantage of your own writing skills and writing articles online. One of my customers was doing some research on her business and told me she’d seen one of my content articles on www.killermarketingarsenal.com. The next day We received a notice through www.sbinformer.com (a small business site) asking permission to use an additional of my articles. Like a direct result of my creating articles, I now have an audience which i may have never otherwise arrived at. You never know what search engines might just pick up on your article, or even how your information could be useful to someone else.

  1. Understand your strengths.

Successful advertising requires that you know your advantages and your weaknesses. Take time to request friends, family, and others the actual feel are your best strengths and weaknesses. You might be surprised to find out that what you thought was not a talent is regarded as such by others. While you are in an uncomfortable or nerve-wracking situation, focus on your advantages. You will be naturally more comfortable when discussing something that is aligned with your passions and you have learned is valuable in order to others.

  1. Visualization.

Perhaps you have thought about something so much that whenever it actually happened this felt like déjà vu? Visualization is a great tool lets you script out an event prior to it happens. Just think – you are able to anticipate the challenges (for example, no one speaks for you when you arrive) and strategy how to overcome them before these people occur. Plan ahead for numerous situations and scenarios to prevent being caught off officer.

  1. Stick to your values.

It is important not to try and modify yourself in order to successfully marketplace your business. You will be most effective whenever you allow the natural you to break through. For those of us who are introverts, that means establishing a marketing strategy and environment that facilitates us as well as follows the road by which we mean to develop with.
